What is your overriding professional goal?

To help my clients achieve a high level of professionalism in the marketplace by always paying attention to details and providing them with high quality design and printing. I look for ways to help them save money without sacrificing design. My current clients are all professional associations, many of which started out of someone’s home, so I aim to give them the professional image they need to grow and attract new members.

How do you explain what you do to 'regular people?'

I tell them I take the printed word and “make it look pretty”. The goal is to make it eye-catching and attractive so that someone will want to pick it up and read it. You can’t spread your message if it is in an unattractive package.

Why are you in AIGA?

I think AIGA is essential to the promotion of design as a profession, so I want to support it. Technology has changed our profession so quickly and we’re seeing less print and more online design. Unfortunately there is a lot of really bad “design” on the internet because many people who are doing it have no training in design. I think it is very important for us to educate the public that design matters, even if they have to pay more for professional design.

Outside the typical ones (dog, cat, fish, lizard), what office pet would you like to have around?

Maybe a koala or panda bear. They’d be good to cuddle and nap with after lunch, would be fun to watch tumbling and climbing around and would bring an overall sense of calm and fun to the office.

Would you rather be a chicken nugget or a monkey wrench? And why?

Hmm. A monkey wrench because it’s so versatile.
