What is your overriding professional goal?
To create compelling, thoughtful design solutions that are aligned with our client’s goals.
And, specifically we always strive to create something unexpected in private brand packaging design.
And, we seem to be on an on-going quest to change the way people (in our company) think about the design process in general.
How do you explain what you do to “regular people?”
In our case it’s quite easy. We say “we do print design for The Fresh Market”…. we create most of their signage and Private Brand packaging. Most people either shop there on a regular basis or have been to one before.
What professional accomplishment are you proudest of?
Our 2009 HOW Magazine In-Howse Merit Award for the design of our Canned Vegetable Label.

Why are you in AIGA?
To be more involved and have extra support in the local design community. And to also meet other like-minded folks with similar goals.
What is your non-work creative outlet?
Andy: Printmaking
Alex: Cooking
What do you see yourself doing in five years? And where?
Andy: Hopefully creating even better work than I am now in a place that is very inspiring.
Alex: Creating innovative design, managing, mentoring and inspiring other designers and hopefully still working alongside Andy.
Outside the typical ones (dog, cat, fish, lizard), what office pet would you like to have around?
Andy: I would like to have a Dog/Cat. Some sort of hybrid species that would be called a Cog or a Dat?
Alex: Either a duck or a giraffe, depending on the space that’s available.
You have to eat a radial tire. How would you prepare it?
Andy: Roasted with some salt and pepper and a little olive oil.
Alex: Pan-seared with ginger rice and lots of wasabi
Would you rather be a chicken nugget or a monkey wrench? And why?
Andy: Monkey Wrench not because I want to be a “tool” but because chicken nuggets are very weird to me and monkey wrenches are useful.
Alex: Andy is already a monkey-wrench. I could be a chicken nugget, since they’re very complex, made up of various ingredients and pair well with honey mustard (just like me).
