Why are you involved with AIGA Raleigh?
I am involved to also establish a professional network, make connections and learn what’s new in the world of Design. I am also volunteering my time and my talents wherever they are needed.

What is your overriding professional goal?
To continuously learn new skills and techniques and work in a place where I am surrounded by creativity.

How do you explain what you do to “regular people?”
The short answer is obviously Graphic Design, but we all know that it goes far deeper. I simply tell them I create anything that you can hold in your hand. All forms of print media.

What professional accomplishment are you proudest of?
I have had the opportunity to work with many creative people, gain knowledge and learn valuable skills over the past 10 years. I have worked with several companies and have held such titles as a 3D Animator, a Game Tester, a Graphic Designer, a Production Assistant, and as a Graphic Production Manager.

What is your non-work creative outlet?
One of my many hobbies is collecting trading cards. So in my spare time I design cards of professional athletes. It combines my love of sports, cards and design. After getting my cards autographed from a player they usually compliment my work and ask for a copy.

What’s your biggest design-related pet peeve?
Having a client tell me how to design. If I put an image or a logo somewhere, there is a purpose. If I use a certain color or font there is a reason. I welcome suggestions, but when it goes directly against good design, all I can do is shake my head. However, the client must be satisfied with their project after all…

What is the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
Watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one ability or quality, what would it be?
Web Design knowledge/skills would be great.

Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Darkwing Duck “I am the terror that flaps in the night…”

What have you gained or what do you hope to gain through your involvement with AIGA Raleigh?
I have established valuable contacts and continue to network. I hope to gain everlasting skills and knowledge attending meetings and events.

What led you to volunteer or join the board?
Wanting to give back. Making the group better, more challenging and the very best that it can be.

What goals do you have for the future of the chapter?
My goals are to make the Raleigh chapter stand out from the rest! There are many ways to do that and I feel that 2014 will be the year because 2013 was great and we accomplished a lot and had amazing events and memories.
