Raleigh

RECAP | March Community Meeting: Involvement

This month, our community meeting was all about how to get involved with our chapter–through our current programs and new ones suggested by YOU. If you aren’t sure how to get involved–or if you feel like AIGA Raleigh doesn’t have the right events for your needs–we wanted to answer those questions and bridge those gaps.

Here is a list of ideas from the meeting we’re super excited about, along with programs you mentioned that we currently offer.

Design Ability: What is your dream design skill? Topic? Speaker?

Design thinking:

This idea came up multiple times at the meeting. We’d love to look into ways we can provide educational events focused on process, ideation, and foundations of design.

Coding:

Check! Look out for Web 101 coming this spring.

Business side of Design:

Check! We launched our B-Side programing last year and are planning improvements for this year’s course. This programming touches on ethics, accounting, contracts, and building your brand. In the meantime, check out our recaps from previous B-Side courses here.

Film/Motion Graphics/Video:

Check! Join us for our new Video + Animation meet-ups.

Aaron Draplin:

SOON. We’ve been working on this one for a while.

Workshops and Collaborative projects:

We think this is a great idea. We’d love to build off the success of the Print Matters workshop and learn new skills while building something together.

Intro to UI/UX:

Many of you talked about the gray area between graphic and UX design and how to make that transition in your career. Look out for future blogs posts on this topic, as well as a session in Web 101 dedicated to UX/UI design.

Uniting People: What does your ideal design community look like?

We love team bonding. That’s why we make you answer a silly question before we start every meeting. Here are some more bonding ideas you suggested that we are exploring:

Design Impact:

We have a couple upcoming events dedicated to the impact our work has on the community. Join us!

White Like Me: Screening and Discussion

Designing for Social Change

As always, check out our events page for upcoming meet-ups and programs. If you want to be involved with something–or if you have an idea–all you have to do is ask. There are no requirements or applications for being involved–we just want passionate people.
See you at our next event!
