Why are you involved with AIGA Raleigh?
I’m involved with AIGA because I think it’s incredibly valuable to make connections with fellow designers from different career paths and with varying levels of experience. Exposing myself to what others are doing in the design community has proven to be very benefical and has opened doors for me. I also really enjoy being apart of a community that shares my interests and passion for design.
What is your overriding professional goal?
My biggest goal is to remain honest in my work and to never be satisfied with producing mediocre work.
How do you explain what you do to “regular people?”
For those who don’t understand the concepts behind graphic design, I usually tell them that I am a “visual communicator” and specify examples. However, fortunately for me, this has really only happened once or twice.
What professional accomplishment are you proudest of?
Because I am still a student, I haven’t had too much professional experience. However, in the few professional experiences I have had, my biggest accomplishment was being able to communicate and collaborate well with people who are not visual thinkers.
What is your non-work creative outlet?
I love to write. There’s something about making up characters and getting to pretend that is an incredible creative release for me.
What’s your biggest design-related pet peeve?
It’s a pet-peeve of mine when people allow constructive criticism to upset them instead of looking at it from an emotionless standpoint and learning from it.
What is the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
Funny family banter. I realized over Thanksgiving that I have some witty and hilarious relatives.
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one ability or quality, what would it be?
I would like a time-machine, please.
Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Lisa Simpson
What have you gained or what do you hope to gain through your involvement with AIGA Raleigh?
I hope to gain a group of mentors. I am very close to graduating and I want to find a better understanding of the professional world through AIGA.
What goals do you have for the future of the chapter?
A goal of mine is to increase student involvement from N.C. State.
What have you seen other chapters do that was really cool?
AIGA Seattle had a Make-a-thon in which students and professionals had an entire day of making and exploration.
