As part of Durham’s monthly Third Friday event, I stopped by to check out the open studio event at the Golden Belt artist studios. Once a textile factory that produced fabric pouches for Bull Durham tobacco, Building 3 of the Golden Belt Campus is a dynamic creative site with over 35 artists who work in their individual artist spaces.
During the Third Friday event, most of the artists were present and had their studios open. Navigating around the spaces is a unique experience itself. The artist studios wrap around a central gallery space, and red signage guides you in the space as well as around the larger Golden Belt Campus.
There was a variety of work that used type and used design that included Hello Tenfold design and the artwork of artists Anna Norman, Chieko Murasugi, Heather Gorden, and Dan Wilson.
