AIGA Raleigh is happy to announce that the 2018 AIGA Raleigh Student Portfolio Review: The Hot Seat Edition is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 21 at PointSource in Northwest Raleigh.

The AIGA Raleigh Student Portfolio Review is an annual event giving senior undergraduate level students about to enter the job market an opportunity to receive feedback on their portfolios from Triangle area creative professionals.

The Hot Seat Edition format pairs groups of up to of three students and four reviewers together for a panel evaluation. Each student will have 30 minutes to present their work and receive feedback from the group. Each reviewer in the group will offer constructive feedback and advice on the work presented, as well as on how the student presented their portfolio. The other students in the group are invited to comment and ask questions before moving on to the next student to present their work.

The format gives students an opportunity to practice presenting their work and explaining their process to a group of people outside their peer group in the classroom, preparing them to pitch their concepts to colleagues and clients once they begin their careers.

Reviewers will evaluate each student's work as well as their presentation and offer constructive feedback. Reviewers should evaluate the student’s problem-solving approach in addition to the aesthetic, providing actionable suggestions on how they can improve their work. (Check out our reviewer prep guide)

Students, consider the Student Portfolio Review to be your call-to-action: to receive broader feedback and critique from new perspectives and fresh eyes. While this event is not a job fair, some reviewers may be looking for potential employees or interns. This is a great way to network and to become aware of who’s who in the Triangle design community. (Check out our student prep guide).

After the reviews will be a brief recap session with all attendees, followed by a gallery and mingling session. The gallery will give students a chance to get more eyes on their work, and give students, reviewers, and volunteers the opportunity to view all the work presented. This will also be time for students and reviewers to continue conversations as well as meet attendees that were not in their review groups.
