Join us for our March Community Meeting as we talk (and workshop) about making design as inclusive as possible for all.
Growler USA (Upstairs)
South Blount Street
Disability is less about what a person cannot do, and more about the fact that the world is not designed for their needs. Inclusive design is a methodology where designers enable and draw inspiration from the full spectrum of human diversity. When a designer chooses to consider users’ diverse needs, the designer is essentially inviting those users to an experience that was once closed off to them. For this community meeting, we are asking you to “invite” new users to an activity most of us take for granted: board games!
For this community meeting, we are bringing crafting material and popular board games such as Connect-4 and Charades. The task you will be given is to make these games accessible for a specific persona. These personas will be a Persons with Disabilities (PWD) such as a Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) user or a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) user. We will give you everything you need to start empathizing and designing for all kinds of users to make the world a more inviting world that benefits us all.
As usual, we will begin with an icebreaker and end with event updates, time for announcements (are you looking for a job? Found a job?) and after meeting hangs right in the same venue!
See you there!
Our Community Meetings are interactive, free and open to everyone.
New to the area? New to AIGA? Interested in becoming a member? Ready to get involved? Simply want a community of like-minded individuals? The monthly community meeting is a great place to get started and you don't have to be a member to attend.
There’s no better way to see what’s going on in the Triangle creative community, get involved, and participate in shaping the chapter’s growth. Introductions start at 6:30. See you then!
