AIGA Raleigh is proud to present THRIVE 2020, a two-day supercharged creative conference. Much like the mission of AIGA Raleigh, which is to create a place where design thrives for everyone, THRIVE hopes to inspire the creative leaders of today and our future creative leaders through Design Empowerment, helping to enable social change through Design Impact and to cultivate the creative community through Uniting People.

This year, the workshop portion of THRIVE will take place on Friday, February 28, 2020, between 8am and 5:15pm

Learn Lettering with Mary Kate McDevitt | 8:00-12:00pm

Join Mary Kate McDevitt for a session on all things lettering and illustration. This is a four-hour, hands-on session geared toward beginners from 8am to 12pm.

From Mary Kate: Learn the basics of lettering through style and layout. The workshop will focus on a different lettering exercises, demonstrations and one-on-one critiques to discover new ways of creating more dynamic lettering . Learn how to incorporate illustration and illustrative elements, create interesting block lettering, and how to improve your layouts. The goal of the workshop will be to produce a short phrase to be used as art for a greeting card and to leave the workshop feeling more confident in their lettering skills.

Becoming a T-Shaped Designer with Joe Schram & Ben Watson | 1:00-3:00pm

Join Joe Schram (technologist, digital strategist, former AIGA Raleigh President, and AIGA Chapter Advisor) and Ben Watson (Associate Professor of Computer Science at North Carolina State University with research focusing on design graphics) for a session on how to plan for and develop your creative career. This is a two-hour, hands-on session form 1pm to 3pm.

Be A Self-Starter!

Renew your creative spirit by launching your very own passion project! Whether big or small, physical or digital, it’s important to make something for yourself. Showcasing self-initiated projects is not only a possible way to open up a new revenue stream, it also shows potential clients the type of work you’d like to take on. In this workshop you will learn strategies and tricks on how to ideate, stay motivated, and create personal projects that will renew your creative spirit and become an authentic extension of who you are as a professional. You will leave the workshop with a plan that you’ll take back home to work on, produce, and launch! This is a two-hour, hands-on session from 3:15pm to 5:15pm.
